Book a table

Find your seat

Tables are released 60 days ahead. Eight seats at the marble bar are kept free every single night for whoever walks in — we like it that way.

Reservation request

Every request is confirmed by a person, usually within a couple of hours during opening times.

Nine or more? That’s a feasting menu booking — send a functions enquiry instead.

We’ll do our best, though we can’t guarantee a specific table.

No card required to hold a table.

Request received

We’ll confirm by email or text shortly. If it’s for tonight, give us a call and we’ll sort it on the spot.

Eight stools, every night

We hold eight seats at the marble bar for walk-ins from open until close, and they are the best seats in the house for one or two people. Full menu, full wine list, no waiting list, no name required.

If they’re taken when you arrive, leave your number with whoever is on the door. Most people are seated inside forty minutes, and there is a very good wine bar two doors down to wait in.

Booking questions

The fine print

Tables are released 60 days in advance at 9am. Friday and Saturday evenings between 7pm and 8pm go quickly; almost everything else is available within a week or two of the date. If your date is further out than 60 days, email us and we will note it down.

Not for tables of eight or fewer. For nine or more we take a 25% deposit against a feasting menu, credited to your final bill. We ask only that you let us know if plans change — a no-show on a Saturday costs a small restaurant a great deal.

Two hours for tables of two to four, two and a half for five to eight. If the table isn’t needed after you we will never move you along, and on quieter nights people routinely stay far longer. Bar seats have no time limit at all.

Yes — note them in your booking and the kitchen will have a plan before you sit down. Gluten-free pasta is available on any pasta dish, and most of the menu can be made vegetarian or vegan. Our kitchen handles gluten, nuts, dairy and shellfish, so for severe allergies please call and speak to us directly.

Genuinely, yes. High chairs, smaller pasta serves at half price, and no eyebrows raised at the 5:30pm sitting. Sunday lunch is the easiest service to bring a family to.

Step-free entry from Lygon Street, an accessible bathroom on the ground floor, and space between tables for a wheelchair to move comfortably. The Cellar downstairs is stairs-only. Mention access needs in your booking and we will assign a table that works properly, not just one that fits.

No private parking. Two-hour street parking on Faraday and Grattan Streets is free after 6pm, and the Carlton Place car park on Cardigan Street is a four-minute walk. Trams 1 and 6 stop at Elgin Street, thirty seconds from the door.
